ATURA architecture is very excited to announce that our annual Student Collaborative Design Competition (SCDC) is returning for its fifth year in 2021. “Like so many things, the event was unfortunately canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we are very happy that it will resume this year,” said Austin Pehl, Business Development Manager for ATURA and the event’s creator.
The architectural design competition allows students to compete, learn, and grow their understanding of architectural design-related concepts while teaching them the real-world skills needed to succeed in the industry. Participating schools are given a new design challenge each year where they are required to create a design solution modeled after a typical architecture firm’s feasibility study. Each team spends months gathering data, discussing and sketching ideas, designing models, and creating displays to present to a judging panel of industry professionals. Winning teams receive monetary awards to be invested in the continuing of STEM-related education at their schools.
This year teams have been asked to design a mobile tiny home, complete with a 1:20 scale model to be built on a toy trailer that will be provided for them. “Right now we are planning to have presentations sometime in April,” said Pehl.
